Gerald Gems has served as president of the North American Society for Sport History, vice-president of the International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport, and a Fulbright Scholar. He is the author or editor of more than 250 publications, including 31 books, most recently the third edition of Sports in American History: From Colonization to Globalization (2022). He is the editor of Bloomsbury's Sport, Identity, and Culture book series.
