Biography

Maryam Muliaee is currently a Research Affiliate in the Department of Anthropology at the The University of Texas at Austin, USA. She is a media scholar, artist, and editor with over 20 years of experience in research, teaching, and creative practice. She is the co-founding editor of MAST: The Journal of Media Art Study and Theory and has also edited several special issues for MAST Journal, including Media Archaeology and Art (2024), The Art of Media Research (2023), and Mapping Media Studies (2020). Her work bridges art history, media theory, and media archaeology, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes published by major academic presses. Her monograph, Making the Machine Fail: Broken-Tech Aesthetics from Xerox to Digital Media offers a genealogy of error from media art laboratories to platform culture. She taught courses in media theory and history at the University of Colorado Boulder (2021–2023) and the University at Buffalo (2015–2020).
