Piotr Zwierzchowski

Piotr Zwierzchowski is a professor and the dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. His primary research focus is the history of Polish cinema, particularly during the period of the Polish People’s Republic. He has published numerous books in Polish, including Forgotten Heroes: The Protagonists of Polish Socialist Realist Films (2000), The Broken Monolith: The Contexts of Polish Socialist Realist Cinema (2005), The Cinema of New Memory: The Image of World War II in Polish Cinema of the 1960s (2013), Neighbors: A Film About Bydgoszcz in September 1939 (2019, co-authored with Mariusz Guzek), and Filmic Representations of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR) (2022). His books in English include Munk’s “Bad Luck” (2009) and Paradoxes of Late Socialism: Polish Popular Cinema of the Eighties (2025, co-authors Arkadiusz Lewicki, Marcin Adamczak, and Ilona Copik).
