African Literature and the Arts: Across the Continent and Throughout the Diaspora

Amanda H. Hellman (Series Editor), Jennifer Larson (Series Editor), Shepherd Mpofu (Series Editor)

African Literature and the Arts: Across the Continent and Throughout the Diaspora closes the divide between the arts and literature in Black intellectual and cultural life to demonstrate how interdisciplinary analysis reveals interpretive possibilities that have continuously been obscured when approached separately. Through oral traditions, written texts, performance, visual culture, music, embodied practices, and everyday aesthetics, each volume will focus on how these interwoven forms have not only shaped artistic innovation but also political critique, community formation, and cultural memory. By highlighting scholarship that bridges textual and artistic analysis, the series aims to advance a more integrated understanding of Black expressive traditions and to support new modes of inquiry that challenge disciplinary silos. Providing a dedicated venue for scholarship that links African and African American literature with the arts, this series will not only meet a growing scholarly demand, but also help shape the future of interdisciplinary work in African and African American studies. It encourages new conversations, new methodologies, and new insights that will enrich our understanding of both literary and artistic traditions, and the cultural influences that produced them.
