Biography

John Cromby is Honorary Professor of Mental Health and Psychology at the University of Nottingham. During his full-time academic career he worked at the Universities of Bradford, Loughborough and Leicester, as well as at Nottingham. His research engaged with the ways that bodies and social influences mesh together and produce psychological phenomena, an interest he explored in relation to topics including mental health and distress, fear of crime, emotion in the workplace and Brexit. John published over 80 academic journal articles, and wrote, co-wrote or co-edited 12 books including Feeling Bodies (2015), The Handbook of Biology and Society (2018) and Outsight: psychology, politics and social justice (2022). He was also a contributory author to the Power Threat Meaning Framework (2018). Since taking early retirement John continues to write, and now enjoys being free of the stifling constraints of research assessment.
