Morteza Hashemi

Dr. Morteza Hashemi is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Nottingham. He earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Warwick in 2016 and served as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Edinburgh from 2017 to 2020. His research interests are wide-ranging and include social theory, sociology of ‘race’, ethnicity and religion, and Science and Technology Studies (STS). He is the author of Theism and Atheism in a Post-Secular Age (Palgrave, 2017) and co-editor, with Dr. Christopher Cotter, of Religion in Fortress Europe: Perspectives on Belief, Citizenship and Identity in a Time of Polarised Politics (Bloomsbury, 2024). His first monograph was shortlisted for the British Sociological Association (BSA) Philip Abrams Memorial Prize and received the Farabi International Writing Award. He is currently the Director of the Identities, Citizenship, Equalities and Migration Centre (ICEMiC) at the University of Nottingham. He also serves on the editorial boards of two academic journals, Sociological Research Online (SRO) and Cultural Sociology (CUS).
