Highlighting key moments in Sino-American relations she provides a fresh and multi-layered approach to the history of these two superpowers situated both within and beyond The Cold War to demonstrate how the struggle between capitalism and socialism was shaped on an international stage. Examining the connections between geopolitics, immigration, trade and domestic politics, it emphasizes the roles played by non-state actors including students, immigrants, corporations and workers in both countries.
China and the United States situates the Sino-American relationship within the context of national and international concerns, moving the historical lens down to look at the domestic social and political contexts as well as the wider international environment in which bilateral ties operated.
