Description
This book charts the history of armoured warfare from the first use of the tank in 1916 right through to the 21st century, adopting military, political and global perspectives. Exploring the origins of the tank, the part it has played in wars throughout the 20th and 21st centuries and its contribution to their outcomes, Alaric Searle offers a complete history of the employment of armoured fighting vehicles in multiple major theatres of war since 1914.
Tracing how all kinds of armour have evolved in warfare and as a tool of propaganda, this book includes, but also goes beyond, the World Wars to understand mechanised warfare in Korea, Indo-China and Vietnam, as well as in conflicts such as the Arab-Israeli Wars and Gulf Wars. This revised and updated edition includes new content on the Indo-Pakistan Wars and major wars of decolonisation in Africa, and brings Armoured Warfare up to date. Covering conflicts such as the Syrian Civil War, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Gaza, it considers what the role, and future, is of the tank and other armour in the age of the drone and cyberwarfare.
