Joel Selvin is the co-author, with Sammy Hagar, of the #1 New York Times bestseller Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock (2012), along with twenty other books including Altamont: The Rolling Stones, the Hells Angels, and the Inside Story of Rock's Darkest Day (2016), The Haight: Love, Rock, and Revolution (2014), and Hollywood Eden: Electric Guitars, Fast Cars, and the Myth of the California Paradise (2021). His biography of songwriter Bert Berns, Here Comes the Night (2014), earned Berns a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, served as the basis for a documentary film, and is currently getting the cinematic treatment from director Rob Reiner.
