Stephen Ansolabehere is the Frank G. Thompson Professor of Government at Harvard University and one of the most cited scholars of American elections and public opinion. He created the Cooperative Election Study in 2005 and served as its principal investigator until 2025, building it into the largest academic survey of American voters and a standard reference for the journalists who cover politics. He consults for CBS News on the Election Night Decision Desk, calling races for the network on election nights. He sits on the board of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford and has served on the board of the American National Election Study. He is the author of six books, including Going Negative (1995), The End of Inequality (2008), and Representation in America (2025).
