Description
This book shows the variety of subjects and techniques of embroidered pictures in the Georgian period in Britain (1714-1830).
As well as schoolgirls during education, prominent women such as Miss Morritt, Mrs Knowles and Miss Linwood produced large embroidered pictures to simulate paintings, which although greatly admired at the time are now almost totally neglected. Pictorial needlework also adorned upholstery, chair seats, screens and wall hangings.
This compact guide is a highly useful handbook for collectors, museum curators and antique dealers, and an inspiration to the modern needleworker.
