Hart Studies on Contested Legalities

Hart Studies on Contested Legalities is devoted to the systematic study of pseudolaw, sovereign citizen movements, and other forms of alternative or fringe legality that challenge the authority, legitimacy, and operation of state legal systems. Across many jurisdictions, individuals and groups increasingly rely on misconstrued legal doctrines, re-interpretations of law, and counter-legal narratives to resist courts, government agencies, welfare institutions, and regulatory systems. The series brings together work on alternative and counter-legal forms, including pseudolaw and related movements, alongside analyses of Indigenous legal systems, and prefigurative legal projects, to examine these sites, what they reveal about legal authority, and the limits of law.
