Joel MacInnes explores the often-overlooked connection between the Book of Revelation and Jewish wisdom tradition, delving into the roots of the New Testament's final text to reveal a compelling interplay of genres. MacInnes investigates the convergences of wisdom and apocalyptic thought within Second Temple Judaism, and how these convergences impact our interpretation of Revelation.
Through a combined literary and theological analysis, MacInnes explores how Revelation employs wisdom language, literary forms such as proverbs and macarisms, allusions to wisdom literature such as Ezra, 4Q and Enoch, and thematic connections to build its message. He demonstrates that the very fabric of Revelation is woven with wisdom thought, influencing its understanding of Christology, ethics, and soteriology.
