Thomas P. Mackey

Dr. Thomas P. Mackey is Professor in the Department of Arts and Media, College of Arts and Sciences at Empire State University, where he serves as Program Coordinator for the BA and BS in Digital Media Arts. He co-originated the metaliteracy framework with Trudi E. Jacobson and has written and edited several influential books exploring the theory and practice of the model, including Metaliteracy in a Connected World: Developing Learners as Producers (2022). His current work explores ethical, reflective, and creative engagement with AI in digital learning environments. Recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, he is also an AI Fellow at Empire State University, SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador, and Extraordinary Professor in the Research Unit for Self-Directed Learning, Faculty of Education, North-West University, South Africa.
