Description

The volume is the written outcome of a series of critical discussions between students, EAP practitioners and researchers on themes related to ways of working with students and representing EAP students and their experiences. The chapters provide a rare opportunity to hear students' voices in a review of contemporary and prevalent issues exposed when EAP practitioners and researchers explore students' needs, attitudes, behaviours and cultures in higher education in the UK. The discussions centre on themes that emerge when students have been represented by others in EAP, and the volume provides a refreshing opportunity for students to share their own interpretations of key issues and debates 'about them' in the field.

While the EAP community has been engaged in a process of student exploration and investigation, there have been very few opportunities purposely designed for students to steer studies, to critically engage with research ideologies or research motivations, or to respond to ways in which they have been represented within EAP and related literature. This book is a direct attempt to redress the balance and provide the opportunity for students to be a critical and central part of the discussions around EAP students.
