Description
Every psychotherapist and mental health professional encounters sticky, problematic situations with their clients in the process of therapy. These “stuck situations,” which cross theoretical orientations and diagnoses, include no-shows, frequent late arrivals, or appointments running over time; asynchronicity in the level of care the psychotherapist recommends and the client agrees to; and lack of progress due to lack of client skills application outside of session. Sticky Situations in Psychotherapy: Pragmatic Solutions to Challenging Problems provide a compendium of solutions for these common problems in psychotherapy. Each chapter provides an example case study, discussion of the problem, identification of several solutions, and sample script for the provider to address the issue with their client. This book is based on a highly successful seminar provided over the past decade within a group practice. It was developed from author Joe Hromco's experience as a psychologist leader and administrator who was the go-to for hundreds of clinicians.
